Terence Tam is an engineer and photographer, based out of Redmond, WA. Born and raised in Hong Kong to an engineering father and an artistically inclined mother, Terence followed his family's footsteps into engineering. By day, he designs mission critical battery systems for military, law enforcement and Class-A medical products. By night, he's a jack-of-all-trades, with a wide variety of interests, ranging from cooking and home improvement to robotics.

For Terence, photography started out as a necessity to document his personal projects and professional engineering work, but quickly grew into a significant part of his life. He soon progressed from using a refurbished Canon Digital Rebel XT and Sigma lens, to top of the line equipment as his skills improved through practice and experimentation, reading numerous photography books, studying photos on Flickr and networking with other photographers.

His engineering training is still evident as Terence thinks of the camera first and foremost as a precision optical instrument coupled to a superb imaging sensor, and therefore he is not afraid to pursue the shots he envisions through computational photography techniques that digital photography facilitates. Focus stacking, high dynamic range imaging, exposure stacking, and statistical noise reduction, along with traditional photographic techniques such as long exposure, panning shots, and the use of optical filters, are all tools in his toobox to get the shot that he needs. In fact, Terence has been known to build his own camera mounts and accessories, all in the pursuit of one unusual shot. Terence is an active member of the Seattle Flickr Meetup photo community, and often shares his knowledge with others, both online, and in the form of photo workshops He often collaborates with, and draws inspiration from his fellow photographers.
